About Us

Having first opened the doors for business in 1925 - Fisher Sand and Gravel has distinguished itself from other Sand and Gravel companies everywhere. Still flourishing today after many years of dependable service and quality products, Fisher Sand and Gravel prides itself on being the premier company of its kind in the area. Fisher Sand and Gravel is a proud member, and also the founding company, of the Fisher Companies. The Fisher Companies are comprised of several divisions which compliment one another and offer a complete suite of services and products that cannot be outdone. The divisions include a general and civil contracting company, asphalt paving company, asphalt production plant, transportation company, aggregates mining company, stone dock on the Saginaw River, and two additional ready mixed concrete production facilities. Fisher Sand and Gravel is a third generation family company, and is still owned and operated by the Fisher family. Fisher Sand and Gravel was started in the mid-1920’s by R.J. Fisher. R.J.’s first project was bidding gravel to Midland County townships. In 1932 he moved from leasing to buying property to excavate gravel. Prior to this R.J. leased property for gravel rights. In the midst of World War II, R.J. expanded into ready-mixed concrete. At this time, the business was located on George Street in Midland, just a few blocks from our current location. In 1947, after serving in World War II and graduating from Michigan State University, James O. Fisher, R.J.’s son, joined the company. At that time they began building a new facility at our current location on property bought from Dow Chemical. The business continues at this location with Kyle L. White currently serving as President.
